Happy Veterans Day!
Today we honor all veterans and acknowledge and give thanks for their dedication, sacrifices, and bravery.
Veterans Day, formally called Armistice Day, was originally celebrated on November 11, 1919, one year after much of the fighting of World War I ended. This day reflects the Armistice with Germany that went into effect on the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. President Woodrow Wilson spoke of this day with great honor: “To us in America the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service, and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of nations.”
According to the Pew Research Center, there are approximately 19 million living U.S. veterans. At GrowHealthy, we are so proud to work alongside many veterans! We asked our veteran team members to share about their time of service and their connection to cannabis so we can honor them. Please join us in saying thank you!
Cortni Murray
Cortni Murry is our Inventory Control Coordinator and has been at GrowHealthy for six months. She served for four years as a Security Forces Member (military police officer) in the United States Air Force as an E-4/SrA. During her four years of service, she served two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Her base was the second largest refueling wing in the Air Force, and Cortni had the opportunity as a brand-new Airman to go up in a KC-135 refueling plane. She watched them refuel a F-16 jet as she lay directly beside the controller as he refueled the jet midair!
Cortni joined GrowHealthy because she strongly believes in cannabis as medicine: “I myself was already a card holder for the state of Florida, so I wanted to bring my skillset into a career field that I believe in and want to help it grow. I believe in cannabis as a helpful tool everyday and I believe most Vets would agree with me.”
John Hayes
John Hayes is our Site Security Manager, and he has been at GrowHealthy since January 2018. He served in the Army for five years as a military police officer, earning the rank of Corporal.
His greatest memory of his time in the Army was when he was in Afghanistan. Not only was it the “best worst time” of his career, but the connection he made with his unit won’t ever be forgotten.
John decided to join the GrowHealthy team because of how much medical marijuana has helped his PTSD. He was wants to change the stigma around cannabis.
Justin Wilson
Justin Wilson is a Dispensary Lead at our Brandon GrowHealthy dispensary. He has been with GrowHealthy for six months, and he hopes for many more months to come!
He served as an Information Systems Technician (ITS5) aboard a Los-Angeles Class Attack submarine stationed in Connecticut. He achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class during his time in the Navy.
Out of the six years he served as Active Duty in the Navy, his favorite moments were the team-building times they had as a division. “It wasn’t always easy being away from family and friends,” Justin said, “but building friendships with folks who were from far-off lands and different lifestyles built a very cohesive and enjoyable experience.”
Justin came to GrowHealthy because he saw that GrowHealthy “set an incredibly high bar that everyone else always strived to achieve.” So, in his words, “If you can’t beat them, why not join them!”
It is with deep humbleness that we say thank you to our GrowHealthy veterans and veterans everywhere. Thank you for your service.
